Autism is a neuro-developmental disability affecting a person’s social and emotional capabilities. In Singapore, one in 150 children has autism, a higher rate than the World Health Organisation's global figure of one in 160 - a phenomenon that is possibly the result of increased diagnoses in recent times. Despite growing awareness of the condition, opportunities and options for the autistic continue to lessen with age, with parents worrying about their child’s ability to fend for themselves when they are no longer around to care for them. About A Boy is an ongoing photo essay that will document the life O’Neal as he learns to cope with autism over his growing years into adulthood.
